For those of you that follow me regularly, you will know that from time to time, I drop my usual selfish ramblings about life as a punchbag for my sparring partner, er…I mean wonderful son, and selflessly promote something dear to my heart, in the hopes that they get the recognition and help that they so rightly deserve.
Today happens to be one of those days.
A Modern Father (…and dad blogger), is the title of blogger, and author John Adams’ first book.
It is a wonderfully funny, and insightful, trip down memory lane, that encompasses the first two and a half years of his blogging life as a stay at home dad.
His book is an easy read, that can be accomplished in a morning, or in small bite size chunks, between, washing, cooking, hoovering, and caring for your little carpet monkeys, as we modern dads are now wont to do.
Johns journey begins with the birth of his second daughter, and quickly highlights the ingrained stereotypical behaviour of the system, with regards to us dads being seen as mere sperm donors, rather than loving, caring, responsible partners and parents.
He shares some of his ‘life memories’. Those wonderfully precious, and fleeting moments that will always bring a tear to our eyes, for the rest of our lives. Like the time his daughters trash a dental surgery.
He also shines a light on what it’s like to be a dad, blogging about parenting, in a world dominated by women. What have I got myself into John?!
All in all, this book talks from, and to the heart, and is a pleasure to read. It shows that we as men, do in fact have feelings, and are passionate, about our roles in the family. That we are ready to stand up, and be counted, ready to put our pants in the ‘freedom trash can’, and set them aflame in the name of liberté, égalité, fraternité!
John can be found over at his website Dad Blog UK, where you can find a myriad of wonderful topics, from parenting to men’s fashion. Some serious, some funny, but always wonderful. I recommend you follow!
If I could, I’d like to ask a favor from all of you wonderful supporters. Could you please take a moment to click on the link below a cast a nomination vote for your humble narrator, in the ‘Fresh Voice’ category of this years #BiBs awards. I am truly grateful, for all your support, and words of encouragement.
Well, until next week droogs. Be dobby, smeck grimly, and skvat jeezny by the sharries!
